Some Charitable Perspective
I know this platform has spent much of the holiday season sucking Dave Portnoy's dick for the work he has done setting up The Barstool Fund, but unlike other promotional stuff we and EVERY OTHER COMPANY IN THE WORLD try to promote for our own benefit, this thing really is a beacon of virtue.
The amount that Dave and company have raised so far has become so astronomical that it is difficult to get my arms around, so I am always looking for perspective… And today, I got some.
While researching Kurt Cobain's autopsy, I saw the United Nations has a COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization that has already raised just over $7 million for various charities. And the United Nations Foundation has been lucky enough to have Google.org match $2 for every $1 up to $5M donated… You can even donate through YouTube and they (Google again) cover all the transaction fees.
Let me say that again…
The UNITED NATIONS has a foundation that FOR MONTHS has been running a COVID charity with the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION that has had the backing of some MAJOR CORPORATIONS LIKE GOOGLE, and they've managed to raise just over $7 million.
Now let me also say…
Dave Portnoy and his small band of merry men (and women) have been at this for LESS THAN THREE WEEKS and have eclipsed the United Nations in donations… They just passed $8 million.
And that is ALL on the backs of generous stoolies and celebrities in Dave's Rolodex who made the mistake of picking up their phone when he called to shake them down.
Therefore, I am essentially jumping in line to be the next one to suck Dave's dick because the task he took on was Herculean and the results he has received have been monumental.
I ran out of money last May, but my wife and I cut a paltry check this week to the fund that is probably a lot more than some but EXPONENTIALLY LESS than countless others (like Gaz).
In conclusion- If you have anything left over after all the shit that went down this year, I think the evidence points to The Barstool Fund being the best place to make a charitable donation in these uncertain times.
